Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly criticised new European Union sanctions targeting Israeli settlers, calling the measures unacceptable and politically motivated.
In a statement released by his office, Netanyahu defended Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, referring to the area by the Biblical name “Judea and Samaria”, a term frequently used by Israeli political leaders and settler groups.
The Israeli leader stated that Israel would continue protecting what he described as the rights of Jewish communities living in the region, calling the area part of Israel’s ancestral homeland.
Netanyahu’s office also accused the European Union of showing weakness through its attempts to impose restrictions on Israeli civilians connected to settlement activities.
The latest dispute highlights ongoing tensions between Israel and several international governments over settlement expansion and policies in the occupied West Bank.
The issue remains one of the most sensitive and controversial topics in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, drawing continued international attention and diplomatic criticism.
